Storm Response: How Crew B Stepped Up During the Southern BC Coast Tempest

Last night, during the storm that ripped through the Southern BC Coast, Crew B were twice tasked by JRCC.
The first call came at 01:31. Station 1 was tasked to assist vessels in English Bay, which were dragging anchor and at risk of going aground. The crew responded quickly after departing, but before rounding Point Atkinson, they were stood down. The winds had relented, and the Coast Guard were able to secure the situation.
After returning to the dock, the crew hopefully had just enough time to shut their eyes before being awoken by a call at 04:04. The winds had now picked up to 35 + kts, and JRCC tasked SAR 1 to respond to what was described as “a complete gong show” in False Creek. Crossing English Bay was a challenge in itself; the heavy weather was now producing 6+ foot waves.
Upon arrival, the crew assisted in securing multiple vessels that had broken loose from their moorings. Of utmost importance was ensuring that the boats were unoccupied and that no persons were in immediate danger. After determining that no one was in danger, the crew worked for several hours securing the boats that were not already on the rocks.
After a very long night, SAR 1 was stood down and back secure in Horseshoe Bay at 07:30
Hopefully the crew got to spend some much-deserved time asleep today!
